14 - After losing to Guntersville last week, the Indians traveled to
Hazel Green with a 9-0 record and an opportunity for an undefeated regular
season. The Indians found out Friday that Guntersville had to forfeit 5
wins for using an ineligible player. For an undefeated season, the Indians
would have to get past the playoff bound 6A Hazel Green Trojans. After
receiving the opening kickoff, the Trojans raced to a 14-0 lead on its
first 2 possessions. Shannon Anderson's 1 yard run capped an 8 play, 78
yard drive to put the Trojans up 7-0. After an Indian punt, the Trojans
scored again on a 63 yard pass from Wesley Henderson to Chris Lucas with
5:55 left in the first quarter. The Trojans added to the lead late in the
second quarter on a 4 yard run by Nick Goodwin. The Trojans forced another
Indian punt and took over at the Trojan 28 late in the second quarter. The
Trojans were trying to build on their lead, but Marchas Glover intercepted
a Trojan pass and returned it 30 yards to get the Indians on the board
with 50 seconds left in the half (play). Nathan Durham kicked his first of two PATs, and the halftime score was 21-7. The Indians took the second half
kickoff and drove inside the Trojan 10, but failed on a field goal
attempt. On the drive, an interesting second down play from the Trojan 12
resulted in a personal foul against the Trojans for a late hit in the end
zone. A half the distance penalty put the Indians on the Trojan 6, but it
was ruled to be third down when most fans thought it should have been an
automatic first down. If the Indians had been able to score here, well,
who knows. After an exchange of possessions, the Trojans mounted their
last scoring drive. Anderson's 27 yard run and Blake O-Rear's fourth PAT
extended the Trojan lead to 28-7. Late in the fourth, the Indians drove 73
yards in 10 plays for the final score, with Glover scoring from 10 yards
out. The Indians
host the Holt Ironmen from Region 5 in the first round of the playoffs
next
