Game 6 - East at West Point (3 October)

West Point 36, East 35 - The West Point Warriors' Nick Nunnelly scored from one yard out on the last play of the game to defeat the Indians in a Region 7 game. The Indians fall to 4-2 (2-2) heading into next week's game at Boaz. The Warriors took the opening kickoff and drove to the Indian 10, where Justin Brummett connected on a 27 yard field goal. The Indians took the lead early in the second quarter on Jacquez Pride's 6 yard run and Keith Southard's PAT. Key plays in the drive were Evan Whiteside's 19 yard pass to Nathan Durham and Kelly Tisdale's 11 yard run. Later in the quarter, the Indians scored again on Pride's 20 yard pass to Excellence Ukamadu. Southard added the PAT. The drive covered 88 yards in 6 plays. Late in the half, the Warriors recovered a fumble at the Indian 20. Six plays later, Tony James scored from 2 yards out to close the gap to 14-9. The Indians took the second half kickoff and drove 64 yards in 8 plays, with Pride scoring from 13 yards out. Southard's PAT stretched the lead to 21-9. On the ensuing drive, Nunnelly ran 75 yards for a score, and Brummett added the PAT. After exchanging possessions, the Indians got the ball at their own 25 and scored in 2 plays. Tisdale ran for 33 yards to the Warrior 42. Marchas Glover hit the middle, then bounced outside and covered the remaining 42 yards. Southard's PAT made it 28-16. On the ensuing kickoff, the Warrior receiver caught the ball on the one, hesitated, then stepped back into the end zone and took a knee. Safety, right? Wrong! The Warriors were awarded a touchback. Three plays later, Dustin Smith scored on a 74 yard run, and Brummett's PAT narrowed the lead to 28-23. Quentin Hill returned the ensuing kickoff 30 yards to the Warrior 45. Four plays later, Tisdale's 6 yard run and Southard's PAT gave the Indians a 35-23 lead. The key play in the drive was Whiteside's 24 yard pass to Durham. After the Indian defense forced a punt, the Indians drove 64 yards in 12 plays to the Warrior 18. The Indians attempted a field goal, but fumbled, and the Warriors took over at the Warrior 23 with 1:48 left. The Indians were penalized 15 yards for having 12 men on the field. Nunnelly then connected with Matt Pilotte for 62 yards and a score. Brummett's PAT made it 35-30 with 1:18 left. The Warriors recovered the onside kick at the Warrior 49. Four plays netted 50 yards and a first down at the Indian 1. The Indian defense stopped the Warriors twice, but Nunnelly scored on the third try.
