Game 2 - East at Madison County (5 September)

East 48, Madison County 14 - The Indians wasted no time in getting on the board. Jacquez Pride returned the opening kickoff to the Tiger 40. After an incompletion, Evan Whiteside ran for 20 yards and threw to Quentin Hill on the next play for the score. Keith Southard's PAT gave the Indians a 7-0 lead just 54 seconds into the game. Game, set, match, right? Not quite. The Tigers took the kickoff and drove 81 yards in 12 plays. A Wes Anderson to Colby Tabor pass covered the final 15 yards. Tabor's PAT tied the game at 7. It was a standoff for the next 12 minutes until the Indians stopped the Tigers on downs at the Indian 15. Then someone turned on the Pride show. Jacquez Pride scored 3 touchdowns in a span of 2:24 to give the Indians the lead for good. The scores were an 80 yard run, 25 yard run, and 68 yard punt return. The second score came after Antonio Townsend recovered a Tiger fumble at the Tiger 25. Southard added 3 PATs for the 28-7 lead with 1:50 remaining in the half, but the Indians weren't through. After the defense forced a punt, the Indians drove 57 yards in 4 plays. The touchdown came on a 38 yard pass from Whiteside to Hill as the clock ran out. The PAT was wide, but the Indians took a surprising 34-7 lead into the locker room. The Indians tacked on 2 more in the third quarter. Marchas Glover scored on a 20 yard run, and Whiteside scored on a 4 yard run. Southard converted both PATs. The Indian defense held the Tigers in check until late in the game, when Eric O'Neal broke loose on a 92 yard run with 29 seconds left. The Indians play at home next when the Douglas Eagles fly in.
