East 33, Hazel Green 0
- After a devastating week, the Indians were "men on a mission" Friday night.
On the first cool night of the season and in front of a dedicated crowd of
Indian fans, our Indians closed out the season with a convincing win over the
5A Trojans. Lets give credit to the defense first. The Indian defense pitched
its third shutout of the season, holding the Trojans to 4 first downs and 104
total yards. The Trojans never drove inside the Indian 30. The defense forced
4 turnovers. Chris Webster recovered a fumble, Quentin Hill had an
interception, and Antwan James had 2 interceptions. Oh yes, we also had some
offense. In the first quarter, the Indians drove 77 yards in 13 plays. James
scored from 2 yards out on fourth down. Keith Southard's PAT put the Indians
up 7-0. In the second quarter, Jonathan Hill scored on a 4 yard reverse.
Southard's PAT extended the lead to 14-0. Just before the half, a short punt
and a penalty put the Indians in business at the Trojan 28. On the first play,
Jonathan Hill ran a fade and Evan Whiteside delivered a perfect pass for the
score. Southard's PAT gave the Indians a 21-0 halftime lead. The ELS Band
entertained the crowd with another topnotch performance. The band dedicated
their show to Principal Dennis Black and all the Seniors. Early in the third
quarter, James intercepted a Trojan pass at the Trojan 48. On the first play,
James raced 48 yards for the score. The PAT was blocked, and the Indians led
27-0. Later in the third quarter, Whiteside scored from 29 yards out. The pass
for two failed, and the Indians led 33-0. A scoreless fourth quarter still
revealed a few wrinkles in the Indian attack. Quarterback Evan Whiteside and
wide receiver Jonathan Hill traded positions for a few plays. Senior lineman
Joseph "Tiny" Hasting got a taste of what it's like to be a tailback. On fourth
and one, Tiny got the pitch. Tiny tried to get outside and well, he didn't
make it. East finishes the regular season with a 9-1 "on the field" record.
Great season, Indians!!! Good luck seniors Jonathan Hill (6), Antwan James
(7), Clay Reed (10), Eric Wallace (20), Marquez Pride (24), Sean Darby (32), Byron Dubose
(47), Raleigh Hill (50), Joseph "Tiny" Hasting (52), Chris Webster (55), Shane Foster
(56), and Justin Klinkenberg (82).
