Game 5 - East at West

East 32, West 0 - East went West Friday night and returned home with its first shutout of the season. The opening drive covered 73 yards, with Marquez Pride scoring from 32 yards out. Keith Southard kicked the PAT to give the Indians a 7-0 lead. The drive was kept alive with two third down passes from Evan Whiteside to Jonathan Hill. On the ensuing kickoff, Stevie Winton made the "hit of the night" in bringing down the West return man. After a West punt, the Indians drove 72 yards for the next score. Whiteside's pass to Hill covered the final 54 yards. Southard's PAT extended the lead to 14-0 with 4:16 remaining in the first quarter. After a short punt, East was in business again at the Wildcat 26. Marquez Pride ran 26 yards for the third score. The PAT was wide, and East led 20-0 after one quarter. In the second quarter, West punted to the East 5 yard line. The Indians drove 95 yards, with Antwan James scoring from 6 yards out. The pass for a 2-point conversion failed, and East led 26-0 at the half. After a scoreless third quarter, Marquez Pride scored the final touchdown of the night on an 11 yard pass from Whiteside. The drive covered 96 yards. Byron Dubose was named MVP on defense with 18 tackles and 3 sacks. Stevie Winton received the Hammer award. Marquez Pride was named MVP on offense with 187 yards on 15 carries and 3 touchdowns. East hosts West Point next Friday for homecoming, the first of four consecutive Region 7 games. West travels to Lauderdale County.
