Game Summaries

Game 1: James Clemens 7, East 5 (East/Athens Preseason Tour.)
The East Limestone Varsity Baseball team fell to James Clemens in the first game of a Pre-Season doubleheader 7-5. EL jumped out to an early 3 run lead off back-to-back home runs from Caleb Newby and Cal Sandlin. James Clemens took a 6-5 lead in the 6th off a 2 run home run by Ethan Thomas and hung on to win. Cal Sandlin racked up two RBIs on three hits, homering in the first inning and singling in the fifth and seventh inning. The second game of the doubleheader was suspended due to fog. EL plays a doubleheader against Ardmore at East on Thursday (2/20) at 4:30 and 6:30.
Game 2: Austin 7, East 1 (East/Athens Preseason Tour.)
The East Limestone Indians dropped their second game of the year Saturday evening to the Austin Black Bears by a score of 7-1. Austin pitchers Derrick Adams and Jimmy Pritchett combined for the win by scattering four Indian hits. The only Indians run came off of a Witt Black solo home run in the seventh. Black also had a single to round out a two hit night. Hunter Waites and Austin Haataja both had singles for the Indians.
Game 3: East 5, Austin 3 (East/Athens Preseason Tour.)
The Indians picked up their first win of the season Monday night in a 5-3 win over Austin. Indian pitchers Justin Usery and Will Schmieder scattered 5 Austin hits to get the win. The Indians had three hits on the night, two singles from Ausin Haataja and a double from Hunter Waites. The Indians varsity will play Athens at Athens Tuesday at 4:30 followed by the same matchup for the JV teams at 7:00.
Game 5: East 7, Decatur 4
The Varsity Indians and Decatur each put runners in scoring position on Thursday, but the Indians capitalized on more RBI opportunities, pulling out a 7-4 win. Decatur out-hit Indians eight to six, but Decatur stranded five runners on base. Cameron Turner went a perfect 2-2 at the plate for the Indians. He singled in the fourth and sixth innings. Peyton Moran got it done on the mound on the way to a win. He allowed four runs over five innings. He struck out three, walked three and surrendered seven hits. Link Burns was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just 1 1/3 innings, walked four, struck out none, and allowed five runs. Indians closer Hunter Waites put away the final six outs to record the save. The lead stayed with the Indians after the second, when they scored five runs on a fielder's choice and a two-run single by Waites. Decatur pushed across two runs in both the second inning and the third. In the second, Decatur scored on a fielder's choice, scoring Heath Harrelson. After pushing across two runs in the bottom of the third, Decatur faced just a 5-4 deficit. An RBI single by Joseph Sanders and a sacrifice fly by Heath gave Decatur life. Finally, Peyton induced an inning-ending fly out from Cody Locklin. The Indians increased their lead with two runs in the sixth. A single by Witt Black ignited the offense, plating Cameron. East Limestone will play Decatur again at East on Saturday at 11:00 and then also play Saturday against Madison County at East at 5:00.
Game 6: Decatur 10, East 1
Decatur combined good pitching and hitting to defeat the East Limestone Indians 10-1. Decatur out hit the Indians 11-3 including two hits each from William Woller, Jackson Fite, and Cody Locklin. Woller had three RBIs. Tanner Burns pitched 6 innings, gave up 3 hits and 3 walks with 6 strikeouts. East Limestone's three hits came from Hunter Waites, Cal Sandlin, and Cameron Turner. Hunter Waites had the only RBI for East.
Game 7: East 11, Madison Co. 4
The Indians reversed their hitting performance from earlier in the day by pounding out 13 hits and 11 runs to defeat Madison County 11-4. Hunter Waites had 3 hits for the game including a 3 run homer. Cameron Turner, Austin Haataja, Cal Sandlin, and Ben Rhodes each added two hits a piece. Bobby Foster hit a two run homerun as well. Austin Haataja held the Madison County hitters to just four hits in six innings and allowed no earned runs. Austin struck out four and walked one. Will Schmieder came in to finish off the Madison County hitters in the seventh. East travels to Austin High School Tuesday (3/4) to play a doubleheader at 4:30 and 6:30.
Game 8: Austin 7, East 3
Austin defeated the Indians 7-3 in a hard fought game Tuesday. The Indians and Black Bears were tied at 3 going into the fifth inning before Austin pushed across four runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Riley Camp got the win for Austin on the mound. The Indians had five hits for the game, two each from Ben Rhodes and Austin Haataja and one hit from Bobby Foster.
Game 9 Austin 10, East 0
Austin's Derrick Adams pitched a two hit shutout against the Indians and received plenty of run support to beat the Indians 10-0. The Black Bears pounded out 12 hits while the Indians could only manage two hits both from Ben Rhodes. The Indians will play James Clemons Thursday at East.
Game 10: James Clemens 15, East 5
James Clemens' 13 hits and 12 run fourth inning proved to be too much for the East Limestone Indians. James Clemens won 15-5 in six innings. East managed to get only 5 hits, two coming from Ben Rhodes and one hit each from Cameron Turner, Witt Black, and Brick Pugh.
Game 11: Madison Co. 7, East 6
The Indians out hit Madison County 8-7 but ended up dropping the game to the Tigers 7-6. Madison County took the lead in the first and never relinquished it. The Indians cut the lead to one in the sixth off of a three homer from Ben Rhodes but came up one run short in the end. Cal Sandlin and Ben Rhodes each had two hits while Austin Haataja, Cameron Turner, Hunter Waites, and Bobby Foster each added singles. Justin Usery went the distance for the Indians and despite giving up only seven hits, walking only two, and striking out one, ended up with the loss in the close fought game. The Indians play Athens and Austin at Athens Saturday at 11:00 and 1:00.
Game 12: East 2, Athens 0
The East Limestone Indians beat Athens 2-0 in a pitcher's dual. Austin Haataja pitched a complete game, one hit shutout while Athen's Mason Gilliland held the Indians to just five hits. The Indians defense sparkled by committing no errors in the game. The Indians had five hits for the game with one hit each from Witt Black, Hunter Waites, Austin Haataja, Cal Sandlin, and Ben Rhodes. Mike Elkins had Athens' lone hit.
Game 13: Austin 10, East 9
Austin pushed one run across in the top of the seventh and then hung on to edge out the Indians 10-9. Austin's Chandler Busing pitched the final two innings to get the win. Chris Sparkman had two doubles and three RBIs for Austin. Riley Wimberly, Peyton Miller, and Clay Morland each added singles. Austin Haataja had three hits and two RBIs and Ben Rhodes had two hits and one RBI for East. Cameron Turner, Witt Black, Hunter Waites, Brick Pugh, and Bobby Foster each had singles for East. East's record moved to 4-9-1. East will play Austin again on Monday (3/10) in a doubleheader at East starting at 4:30.
Game 14: Austin 14, East 3
Following a 5 run first inning, the Austin Black Bears went on to beat the Indians 14-3. Austin's Chris Sparkman got the win on the mound allowing only three runs in four innings. The Indians got two singles from Austin Haataja and a single each from Cal Sandlin and Ben Rhodes.
Game 15: Austin 13, East 7
Austin out hit the Indians 17-8 in a 13-7 win over the Indians behind the pitching of Logan Reed. Brick Pugh lead the Indians at the plate with three hits, followed by Justin Carlin with two hits. Gabriel Barranco, Cal Sandlin, and Ben Rhodes each added singles. Brick Pugh came in relief for the Indians striking out eight batters while only giving up four hits in three shutout innings. East's record moved to 4-11-1. East will play Elkmont Thursday (3/13) in a doubleheader at Elkmont starting at 4:30.
