East Limestone opened the season with a 12-2 victory over Elkmont in the East Limestone Preseason Tournament.  Matthew Bailey threw 5 innings for the Indians to get the win.   Nathan Dumont drove in 4 runs with a home run and a single.  Corey Dunn went 2 for 3 with a double and a single.  Jared Laxson and Seth Hughes each had a pair of hits.  Daniel Tucker, Cade Medley, and Bailey rounded out the hitting with a single. ---Bart Fowler

Down by 6 runs in the 5th inning, East Limestone used an 8 run rally to take the lead from Athens, and then held on in a slugfest to defeat Athens 16-14 in the East Limestone Preseason Tournament.

Nathan Dumont hit a pair of solo home runs to spark the Indians at the plate.  Jacob Fowler had a pair of doubles and a single.  Aaron Golden had two doubles and Jared Laxson had two singles.  Seth Hughes, Matthew Bailey, and Matt Webster each added a single for the Indians (2-0).  Bailey pitched the last two innings to get the decision for the Indians. ---Bart Fowler

After eight runs were scored in the first inning, a defensive battle ensued with East Limestone defeating Buckhorn 5-3.  The game ended with Nathan Dumont making a diving catch of a Sloan Finnerty line drive. After giving up 2 hits in the first inning, Matthew Bailey gave up only 1 remaining hit in the last six innings to get the victory for East Limestone (9-1). Bailey added a 3 run home run in the first inning for East Limestone to grab the lead.  Dumont led East Limestone at the plate with a home run and two singles, and Jared Laxson added a double and a single. Corey Dunn, Daniel Tucker, Aaron Golden, and Cade Medley each had a hit for the Indians (9-1). James Brown led Buckhorn (9-3) at the plate with a double and single and Finnerty had a single. ---Bart Fowler

In a game that saw the lead change hands 4 times, Ryan Wheeler scored the go ahead run in the sixth inning as West Limestone defeated East Limestone 7-6. Wheeler led all hitters at the plate with a double and 2 singles and also got the decision on the mound in relief. Colton Hill had a pair of singles, Blake Moffett had a triple, and Zac Shindorf added a double for West Limestone.

Nathan Dumont drove in three runs with a triple and a double to lead East Limestone at the plate. Jared Laxson, Cade Medley, and Corey Dunn each went 2 for 4 with a pair of hits for the Indians (9-2).

East Limestone used a strong pitching and hitting performance from a couple of seniors along with timely hitting and aggressive base running to defeat the #2 5A Charles Henderson Trojans 11-10. Matt Webster held the Trojans to 4 runs thru six innings, and Matthew Bailey hit two towering home runs, one a grand slam, to stake the Indians to a lead they never relinqueshed. After the Trojans rallied to cut the lead to 1 in the seventh, Nathan Dumont came on to save the game for the Indians (10-2).

Offensively, Bailey's 6 RBI's helped take advantage of Indian hitters on base. Thru 7 innings, the Indians left only 1 man on base. Jared Laxson had a double and a single. Cade Medley, Daniel Tucker, and Jacob Fowler rounded out the hitting each with a single. ---Bart Fowler

East Limestone dropped the second game of a doubleheader at Troy State to Wicksburg 16-7. Falling behind early and down by 10 runs in the top of the fifth inning, the Indians rallied to cut the lead to 4, but were unable to sustain the rally.

Game 17: East 6, Gulf Shores 2 (Gulf Shores Tour.)

After rain postponed Wednesday's action in Gulf Shores, East Limestone closed out pool play Thursday night in the Nike Gulf Coast Classic Tournament with a 6-2 victory over host Gulf Shores. After surrendering 2 runs in the first inning, Nathan Dumont shut down the Dolphins for the remainder of the game to get the complete game victory for the #7-4A Indians. Dumont's effort on the mound was aided by a defense that played error free baseball.

Offensively, East Limestone scored runs in four different innings by doing whatever it took to move runners around the bases. Dumont had the only extra base hit of the game with a double, but was thrown out trying to stretch it to a triple. Aaron Golden and Corey Dunn both drove in runs with singles. Jared Laxson, Cade Medley, Daniel Tucker, Seth Hughes, and Jacob Fowler each had base hits for the Indians (13-4).

"Over these six road games in Troy and Gulf Shores, our team play has gotten better," said Indians coach Bill Tribble. "I'm looking for the team chemistry developed and senior leadership displayed this past week to carry over into our area play that begins next week." ---Bart Fowler

Game 18: East 21, Columbia 4

East Limestone took advantage of a 17 run inning to cruise to a 21-4 victory over Columbia in the first game of area play for both teams.  The Indians (14-4, 1-0) sent 22 batters to the plate in the second inning and collected 12 hits.  Cade Medley, Aaron Golden, and Seth Hughes each had 3 hits for the Indians.  Jared Laxson, Corey Dunn, and Jacob Fowler had two hits apiece.  Matthew Bailey knocked in 4 runs with a home run and a single.  Bailey gave up 2 hits to get the decision on the mound. East Limestone defeated Columbia 19-1 to remain undefeated in 4A, Area 14 play.  Cade Medley had a big day for the Indians (15-4, 2-0) driving in three runs with a pair of doubles and a single.  Medley also struck out 10 batters in 5 innings on the mound.  Corey Dunn drove in 4 runs with a pair of doubles and a single.  Seth Hughes had a pair of doubles, with Jared Laxson and Aaron Golden each adding a double.  Daniel Tucker, Matt Webster, Hunter Floyd and Corey Silcox rounded out the hitting with a single apiece. Corey Dunn drove in the winning run with a hit to shallow right field in the bottom of the seventh inning as East Limestone defeated Ardmore 7-6 in 4A, Area 14 play. 

East Limestone jumped out to an early lead with a pair of 2 run home runs from Jacob Fowler and Matthew Bailey.   Trailing 6-2 in the seventh inning, the Tigers rallied to tie the score 6-6 before Dunn's game ending hit.   Cade Medley also drove in a pair of runs with two doubles and Nathan Dumont added a pair of singles for the Indians (18-4, 3-0).  Aaron Golden and Dunn each had a double.

For the Tigers, Kevin Shelton and Matt Lannum each had a pair of singles.  Both teams play again tomorrow at Ardmore at 1PM. ---Bart Fowler

In a 4A, Area 14 game, East Limestone broke open a close 1-1 game in the fifth inning with eight runs for a 9-1 victory over Ardmore.  Matt Webster had a solid day on the mound for the Indians (19-4, 4-0) limiting the Tigers to 2 hits and striking out 10 batters over 7 innings.   Aaron Golden led the Indians at the plate with a pair of doubles.  Seth Hughes added a double and a single.  Corey Dunn and Jared Laxson each had a double.  Matthew Bailey and Daniel Tucker added a single.  For the Tigers, Landon Boggs and Matt Lannom each had a single.  East Limestone continues Area play Tuesday at Madison County.  ---Bart Fowler

Game 24: East 12, Madison Co. 6

In a game between two teams undefeated in 4A, Area 14 play, East Limestone defeated Madison County 12-6.  Matthew Bailey led the Indians (20-4, 5-0) by going 4 for 4 with a pair of home runs and driving in 4 runs.  Corey Dunn also drove in four runs with a home run and a base hit.  Jared Laxson and Aaron Golden added a double and single.  Seth Hughes had a pair of base hits, and Nathan Dumont rounded out the hitting with a single.  Bailey pitched 5 innings to get the decision on the mound. For Madison County, Chris Perry had a pair of home runs and a single.  Casey Bell was 3 for 4 with a double and a pair of singles.  Andrew McCay hit a home run.  The two teams conclude area play Thursday at East Limestone.  ---Bart Fowler

Game 25: East 14, Madison Co. 4

On the strength of 6 home runs, East Limestone clinched the 4A, Area 14 title with a 14-4 win over Madison County. The game was only minutes old when Madison County jumped ahead 3-0 on a Chris Perry home run.  Aaron Golden answered the Tigers in the bottom of the first inning with a two-run home run.  The Indians (21-4, 6-0) took the lead for good in the second inning with back to back home runs by Seth Hughes and Jacob Fowler.  Daniel Tucker and Matthew Bailey increased the lead to 9-3 with a pair of solo shots in the fourth inning.  Golden added another 3 run home run in the fifth inning.

Cade Medley went the distance for the Indians on the mound striking out 4 in 5 innings of work. Rounding out the Indians offense were Jared Laxson with double and a single.  Fowler added a double, and Nathan Dumont, Medley, and Bailey each added singles.

Madison County got a pair of hits each from Stephen Hilt and Dustin Moon.  Caleb Bowen had a triple and Jason Smith hit a double.  Madison County (14-14, 4-2) is the 4A, Area 14 runner-up.

East Limestone overcame a sluggish start to defeat Tanner 18-6.  Trailing 6-5 after 3 innings, the Indians scored 13 runs in the final 3 innings to earn the victory.

Jared Laxson led East Limestone (22-4, 6-0) with a double and a pair of singles.  Seth Hughes had double and a single.  Aaron Golden and Daniel Tucker had a pair of hits.  Matthew Bailey hit his eleventh home run of the season.  Cade Medley, Corey Silcox, and Corey Dunn each had a hit.  Dunn threw three innings in relief to get the victory.

Chip Greenhaw had a home run for Tanner.  Shane Dempsey and Brett Pepper each had a double. East Limestone closes out their regular season at home Tuesday against Athens Bible School. ---Bart Fowler

In the final regular season game for two playoff bound teams, (#6-4A) East Limestone defeated (#1-1A) Athens Bible School 10-3.

Cade Medley broke open a 1-1 game in the third inning with a three run home run.  Medley also had a pair of singles.  Corey Dunn drove in a pair of runs with two doubles.  Matthew Bailey drove in two runs with a pair of singles.  Jared Laxson, Aaron Golden, Nathan Dumont, and Jacob Fowler each had a single for the Indians (23-4, 6-0).  Matt Webster, Bailey, and Medley each threw a pair of innings with Dumont closing out the game.  Bailey recorded the victory.

ABS was led by Troy Steelman at the plate with a pair of hits.  Connor Brown had a double.  Joseph Baker, Jordan Pugh, Will Chumbley, and John Winland each had a base hit.

In the first game, Cherokee County took an early 1-0 in the second inning on a Caleb Whorton home run.  East Limestone answered with six runs in the bottom of the second inning.  Following a double by Corey Dunn, Daniel Tucker hit a 3-2 pitch over the center field wall.  Back to back doubles from Jacob Fowler and Jared Laxson and a single from Aaron Golden increased the East Limestone lead to 4-1.  Nathan Dumont closed out the scoring with a 2-run home run to bring the East Limestone lead to 6-1.  East Limestone followed a similar pattern in the fourth inning again with Dunn doubling off the right field fence.  Jared Laxson capped the inning with a 3-run home run for a 10-3 lead.  East Limestone concluded the scoring in the bottom of the fourth with three runs.  Following singles from Cade Medley and Dunn, Tucker hit his second home run of the game to give East Limestone a ten run lead.   Matthew Bailey scattered five hits over five innings to get the win for East Limestone (24-4).  Corey Dunn went 3/3 for the Indians with two doubles and a single.  Daniel Tucker hit a pair of home runs and drove in 6 runs.  Jared Laxson had a home run and a double.  Nathan Dumont had a home run.  Jacob Fowler added a double, Cade Medley and Aaron Golden each had a single.  For Cherokee County, Caleb Whorton had a home run.  Coty Blanchard, Matt Hincy, Brett Burgess and Kaleb Kines each had a single. ---Bart Fowler

Game 29: East 8, Cherokee Co. 1  (Round 1)

In the second game, Cherokee County jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning.  With bases loaded and one out, East Limestone's Matt Webster was able to get a strikeout and a ground out to end the inning.  East Limestone tied the game in the top of the third when Aaron Golden drove in Seth Hughes from second on a base hit to right field.  Cherokee County regained the lead in the bottom half of the inning on a Matt Hincy home run.  East Limestone added a pair of runs in the fifth inning when Golden doubled scoring Jared Laxson and Jacob Fowler.  The umbrellas came out as a steady rain set in the middle of the fifth inning.  Cherokee County tied the game when Caleb Whorton drove in Nick Wheeler with a double.  East Limestone took the lead for good in the sixth inning when Jared Laxson singled with two outs to drive in Daniel Tucker and Seth Hughes.  East Limestone took advantage of Cherokee County miscues in the field to add three more runs in the top of the seventh.  Golden stole third on an errant throw back to the mound and made it home on an overthrow to third.  Matthew Bailey and Cade Medley took advantage of a past ball to finish the scoring.  Nathan Dumont pitched the final four innings to record the victory for East Limestone (25-4). Aaron Golden went 4/4 for the Indians with three singles and a double.  Cade Medley had a double and a single.  Jared Laxson had a pair of singles.  Daniel Tucker added a single.  Caleb Whorton, Nick Wheeler, and Kaleb Kines each had a double and single for Cherokee County.  Matt Hincy had a home run.  East Limestone advances to the second round and will face the winner of the Corner-Hamilton series. ---Bart Fowler

Game 30: East 10, Hamilton 8 (8 innings) (Round 2)

East Limestone defeated Hamilton 10-8 in 8 innings to win the first game.  East began the first inning with leadoff hits from Jared Laxson and Aaron Golden.  Nathan Dumont walked to load the bases.  Laxson was thrown out at home on a short fly to right field to end the Indians scoring threat in the first.   East Limestone got on the scoreboard in the second inning when Seth Hughes drove in Corey Dunn after he led off the inning with a double.  Hamilton took the lead in the bottom of the second after scoring 4 runs on 5 hits.  East Limestone added two runs in the top of the third when Matthew Bailey hit a home run over the left field fence, driving in Aaron Golden who had reached base on a single earlier in the inning.  Hamilton scored another run in the bottom of the third to increase the lead to 5-3 after 3 innings.

Daniel Tucker led off the fourth inning with his 3rd home run of the postseason.  Following a base on balls to Seth Hughes, Jacob Fowler gave East Limestone the lead with an opposite field home run over the right center field fence.  Hamilton regained the lead again in the bottom of the fourth scoring 3 runs to hold an 8-6 lead.  East tied the game in the sixth inning.  Aaron Golden led off the inning with a walk and advanced to third on a double by Nathan Dumont.  Cade Medley drove in Golden and Dumont with a double to left center.  Cade Medley held the Aggies scoreless thru the end of the seventh inning.  In the eighth inning, Medley reached on a single.  Corey Dunn drove a dagger in the Aggies' heart with a shot over the left field fence to stake East to an 10-8 lead.  Nathan Dumont came on in relief of Medley and retired the side in order in the bottom of the eighth to give East Limestone (26-5) the victory.

Aaron Golden led East Limestone at the plate with 3 hits.  Corey Dunn had a home run and a double.  Seth Hughes and Cade Medley had a double and a single.  Daniel Tucker had a home run and a hit.  Matthew Bailey and Jacob Fowler each added a home run.  Nathan Dumont and Jared Laxson each had a double.  Cade Medley recorded the victory for East Limestone throwing 7 innings, with Nathan Dumont recording the save. ---Bart Fowler

In the second game, East Limestone's Nathan Dumont held Hamilton to 3 hits thru 6 innings enroute to a 3-0 victory.  Matt Webster threw the final inning to complete the shutout.  East Limestone got on the board in the third inning when Daniel Tucker walked to lead off the inning.  He stole second and advanced to third on an overthrow.  Seth Hughes drove Tucker in when Hamilton's 2nd baseman misplayed a hard liner up the middle.  In the fourth inning, East increased the lead to 3-0.  Matthew Bailey doubled and scored on a Cade Medley single.  Corey Dunn singled followed by Tucker driving in Medley with a single to centerfield.  The lead held as Dumont and Webster held Hamilton in check for the remainder of the game.  Bailey led East Limestone in the second game with a double and a single.  Dunn, Medley, and Golden each had a base hit.  East Limestone will host Saks in the third round next week. ---Bart Fowler

Game 32: East 9, Saks 4 (Round 3)

East Limestone jumped out to an early first inning lead and then finished strong to defeat Saks in the first game 9-4.  East Limestone began the inning with Jared Laxson reaching 1st after being hit by a pitch.  Aaron Golden singled, followed by a pair of walks that loaded the bases and scored Laxson from third.  Daniel Tucker capped the inning with a grand slam that spotted the Indians to a 5-0 lead.

Saks answered with a pair of runs in the top half of the second to pull within three.  East Limestone opened the home half of the second with a ground rule double by Jacob Fowler, but he was left stranded at second to close the inning.        The third and fourth innings saw both teams retired in order.

Laxson drew a walk to lead off the fifth inning, advanced to second on a Golden sacrifice, and then scored on a Nathan Dumont single.  Matthew Bailey doubled to move Corey Silcox (pinch runner for Dumont) over to third.  Silcox was tagged out at home on a pitch in the dirt while trying to advance home.

East Limestone added to their lead in the bottom of the sixth inning.  Corey Dunn led off the inning with a single.  Tucker drove Dunn in with a double, and advanced to third on a Seth Hughes bunt.  Tucker scored from third on a past ball, followed by a Golden single that scored Hughes.  Saks scored a pair of runs in the seventh inning on a 2-run home run by Jason Payne.  Following a single Caleb Bowen, Dumont struck out Matt Flint to end the game. Dumont went the distance for the Indians (28-5) striking out 6 batters thru seven innings. ---Bart Fowler

Game 33: East 11, Saks 9 (Round 3)

In the second game, East Limestone's Jared Laxson drove the third pitch of the game over the right field fence to put the Indians ahead 1-0.   The Wildcats' Dakoda Wells singled to lead off the second inning, but was thrown out at third on perfect relay when he tried to advance from 1st on an overthrown ball into right field.  Cade Medley struck out the remaining two batters in the inning to end the Saks threat in the second.

Similar to the first inning of the earlier game, East Limestone put the Wildcats into a deeper hole by adding 5 more runs in the third inning.  Seth Hughes led off the inning with a solo home run.   After reaching on a fielder's choice, Aaron Golden reached third on a double by Nathan Dumont.  Matthew Bailey legged out an infield hit to score Golden.  After Medley reached on a walk, Corey Dunn drove in Dumont and Bailey with a single.  Daniel Tucker closed out the scoring when he drove in Medley with a single. 

The fourth inning was déjà vu for the Indians as Jacob Fowler led off the inning with a solo home run.  Jared Laxson then tripled and scored on a Golden single.  Dumont doubled once again to score Golden.  A sacrifice fly by Medley to left scored Dumont from third and set off a series of events that later led to Saks coach Derek Cobb being ejected from the game.  As Dumont crossed the plate, he inadvertently deflected the ball with his hand to avoid being struck in the face by the ball.  Brett Mansfield, pinch running for Bailey, was tagged out at home as he tried to advance behind Dumont.  Chaos ensued for the next several minutes leading up to the ejection of the Saks coach.

Saks got a home run from Auburn signee Caleb Bowen in the bottom of the fourth to get on the board.  The Indians scored another run in the top of the fifth when Daniel Tucker was hit by a pitch, advanced to third on a single by Fowler, and scored on a past ball. 

Holding an 11-1 lead, the Indians got down to one pitch from ending the game when the Wildcats' Landry Wright blooped a single into right field to score a pair of runs and cut the lead to 11-4.  The Indians went down in order in the sixth and seven innings.

Saks mounted a rally in the bottom of the seventh.  Leadoff batter Jason Payne reached on a throwing error and scored on another single by Wright.  Back to back singles by Matt Flint and Dakoda Wells were followed by a three run home run from Tino Wynn to cut the Indian lead to 2.  Medley struck out Kyle Johnson to seal the Indian victory.

Medley went the distance for the Indians in the second game striking out 10 batters.  East Limestone (29-5) will play next week in the semifinals at Haleyville. ---Bart Fowler

Game 34: East 3, Haleyville 1 (State Semi-Final)

Playing at Haleyville, East Limestone won the opening game of semifinal action with 3-1 victory. Haleyville struck first scoring a run in the first inning when Lance Gravitt drove Jacob Kennedy in with a single.  East Limestone evened the score at 1-1 in the fourth inning.  Nathan Dumont reached base after being hit by a pitch, was replaced by courtesy runner Corey Silcox, moved to third on a single by Cade Medley, and scored on a Corey Dunn single. 

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Gravitt singled and reached third on a throwing error but was tagged out at home attempting to steal on a wild pitch.  Haleyville left another runner stranded at third in the fifth inning on a triple by Kameron McCreless.

The game remained tied at 1 until the seventh inning.  With 1 out, Seth Hughes reached base on a walk.  Pinch running for Hughes, Silcox reached second on a past ball and moved over to third on a single by Jared Laxson.  East took the lead 2-1 when Silcox scored on a past ball.  Aaron Golden then drove in Laxson on a misplayed ball to increase the lead to 3-1.  

Haleyville got a couple of runners on in the bottom of the seventh, but a diving stop at third by Golden forced the final out for the Indians win.

Dumont pitched 7 innings for the Indians giving up 6 hits, striking out 8, and allowing 1 earned run.  Laxson led the Indians with a single and a double.  Corey Dunn had a pair of singles and 1 RBI.  Cade Medley added a single. ---Bart Fowler

Game 35: Haleyville 15, East 2 (State Semi-Final)

Haleyville won the second game 15-2.  The Lions broke a scoreless tie in the 3rd inning with 12 consecutive runs.  A combination of errors and hits led to the disastrous inning which saw 15 runners come to the plate.  The inning was capped off with a 3-run home run by Trey McNutt. Aaron Golden had a pair of doubles for East Limestone.  Cade Medley added a single. The deciding game will be played at Haleyville Saturday at 3PM. ---Bart Fowler

East Limestone's season ended today with a 4-2 loss at Haleyville in the 4A semifinals.  The Lions took the lead with three runs in the second inning.  East Limestone had several opportunities thru out the game with men in scoring condition, but could never get the clutch hit to score multiple runners.  East Limestone scored one run in the fourth inning.  Matthew Bailey singled and advanced to second on a throwing error to first.  Corey Dunn singled to move Bailey to third and Cade Medley to second.  Daniel Tucker forced the run in when he was hit by a pitch.  Haleyville's Trey McNutt retired the next two batters to end the Indian threat in the fourth inning. 

NcNutt added a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth to increase the Haleyville lead to 4-1.  East Limestone opened the fifth inning off with Jared Laxson reaching on a walk.  He advanced to third on a double by Matthew Bailey, but was tagged out trying to steal home on a past ball to end the inning.     

East Limestone scored another run in the sixth inning to cut the lead to 4-2.  Cade Medley reached first base on a throwing error and advanced to second.  After reaching third on a past ball, Medley scored when Daniel Tucker beat out an infield grounder at first.  Aaron Golden reached first on an error in the seventh inning, but Haleyville pitcher Ryan Forrester struck out the last three batters to preserve the win for Haleyville.

Matthew Bailey led the Indians at the plate with a double and a single.  Corey Dunn and Jacob Fowler each had a single.  East Limestone ended the season with a 30-6 record. ---Bart Fowler
